When Teresa Starkey, the VP of Creative at Cookies, first called on us to help realize Berner’s vision, the hype was big and the reputation was the stuff legends were made of, but the packaging was inconsistent, the logo was being misused and they were almost invisible in retail. Even though people in the community knew about GSC and the blue bags, it wasn’t easy to find and bootleggers were diluting the presence that existed. Today, Cookies is the most recognizable cannabis brand in the world and people know the strain art like they know their favorite sports teams. There are 70 Cookies stores in 6 countries, 25 US states and Puerto Rico. Named one of America’s hottest brands by AdAge. The company is valued at over $300 million.

The Sketch that started it all

This is the actual sketch from Berner that kickstarted all the Cookies strain designs which turned the entire cannabis world on its head.

We transformed this sketch into one of the most celebrated strain designs in Cookies’ legendary lineup.

Berner’s vision was way bigger than that sketch, though. Before he ever scribbled that LPC idea down, he envisioned a brand that could have a huge impact globally. One that would transcend cannabis and help lift up the people and culture that paid its dues long before it was in fashion.

Another important part of the story is Cookies’ sister brand, Lemonnade. Berner wanted to introduce a line of products that touted energetic sativa strains, boasting unique and vibrant flavors. After the first half dozen Cookies strains were introduced, Berner dropped 4 new strains under the Lemonnade moniker, and to this day they remain some of the most identifiable in the industry.

With a huge foothold on the game, Berner and Cookies continued to collaborate with legends including the venerable rap icon, Snoop Dogg. When The Doggy Bagg dropped, it introduced a new pack format and sold out in a few hours at Cookies Maywood. It is still one of Cookies’ most noteable and in-demand strains.

Today, the sky continues to be the limit for this world renowned brand that has far exceeded the expectations anyone thought possible, except Berner and his team.
